Waterside Reach, Tonbridge

Kent, TN9

Haines Phillips Architects were appointed by Redrow Homes
in 2013 for their Waterside Reach project, which involved the demolition of a derelict office building and the construction of a large residential scheme in a prime location adjacent the botany stream in the centre of Tonbridge.

Haines Phillips provided architectural services for amendments to the existing planning consent and for the detailed design, production information and construction stages of the building process.

The project comprised of 197 apartments (including 22 shared ownership units), arranged in to four blocks ranging between three and six storeys. The scheme also included a ground floor commercial unit facing the street, as well as car parking and landscaped amenity spaces carefully integrated in and around the buildings and site.

The large volumes of the apartment blocks were stepped and articulated, and a limited palette of low-maintenance external materials used to break down the scale in to smaller elements and to provide external aspect and amenity space for every apartment.
